Experts from Tomra, sorting specialists and one of the largest reverse vending machine companies in the world, will give a presentation on their experiences in setting up a deposit return scheme (DRS). A panel discussion will look at the benefits and pitfalls of a DRS for the UK.
There will also be two workshops with a focus on technology and IT. First, a look at how cybercrime can affect waste businesses and the practical steps they should take to minimise the risk of machinery being shut down by online attackers. Second, digitisation of services is an increasing trend in the sector, we examine what companies can and should do to collect and use data to run their businesses more efficiently.
Mary Creagh, chair of the influential Environmental Audit Committee, has already been confirmed as one of the keynote speakers during the day. Further announcements on workshops, speakers and sessions will be made soon.
